Near Virtual London

Near Global allows you to virtually walk the streets of London's West End, shop, get information and even watch films and concerts in real-time. Global allows real companies to take online shopping a stage further, offering a hybrid shopping experience somewhere between real-life shopping and normal online. You can go up to shop windows and click on them to browse and buy.

The programme provides real-time information for the city and plugs into Facebook allowing you to share content with your friends. Global uses 3D mapping data (also used for Google Earth and satnav), meaning it's a lot more accurate than versions of cities in other world websites such as Second Life.

Although comparisons can be made between Near Global and other-world gaming sites like Second Life, Global is intended more to be practical than entertaining. Like Google Street View, it allows you to explore real locations from your desk, but it is more interactive with potential for virtual tourism such as exploring art galleries or watching live events.
