Can you feel the love tonight....

As July draws to a close so does our Romance Revolution sampling campaign for Impulse. We've had tales of joy and heartache come in from our Impulse girls (who have done an amazing job by the way, so thanks to all those involved!!)

Here are a few of my favorite photos and stories...

In Edinburgh...due to the girls matching making skill a guy and a girl arranged to meet for a few drinks the following week. The same couple came back into the bar a few weeks later, they had been on a few dates by then and said it was going really well.

In Cambridge...One guy returned the favour by buying the girl that had sent over her number a bottle of champagne!

In Liverpool...the Impulse cupids explained the match-making activity to a group of guys and girls. One of the girls at the table
wrote her number on the call me card and gave it to a guy sitting at the same table...turns out they had been friends for years but had never told anyone that they secretly fancied each other.

Who knows maybe next year we'll have an TrueLove inspired wedding...!

Save the skate park!

Last weekend I headed down to the southbank, one of my favourite places in London on a sunny day. There is always lots going on but I headed to the Tate modern to check out the Street Art exhibition. The Tate building exteria has been transpormed by artists who have created some iconic graff art images, really cool. I also checked out the skate park, which plays host to pleathora of low slung trousered skater boys. It has a great atmosphere and is a real cultural spot for the urban youth so when I googled the area I was annoyed to see that the grumps in the council are trying to close it down. An architecural deadspot has been turned into a great place for young people to be creative and have an outlet for their hobbies. Save the skatepark I say!!

Pitch Mania

Last week saw us in full pitch mode – we had a week and a half to turn around a fully integrated campaign including all creative and PR for a product launch in September. The team pulled out all the stops, working into the small hours on Thurs night and getting 3 hours sleep before a 7.30am final rehearsal at Waterloo Station’s Reef Bar.

A big thank you and well done to Emma, our recently joined Client Services Director (even though this was only her 3rd week, she’s still back here on Monday morning…and still smiling), Clare (AD), Mark (Creative Director) and Lisa (Head of PR). Team work is always important, but never more so than in highly pressured circumstances like this.

We’re now enjoying a slightly more normal week, catching up with our emails and day to day stuff. We do sometimes wonder though whether clients know what goes on behind the scenes for pitches – how many late nights and how much blood, sweat and tears go into making it all come together so seamlessly. We’d be happy to offer a pitch internship to any clients who’ve never worked agency side if they’d like to find out!

Kimbers Is Off!!

There’s a few forlorn faces in the office today. You see there’s a piece of wallpaper peeling off the wall and it’s making it’s way out the front door. That said wallpaper has a name. It’s name is Kimberley Holmes. Kimberley has played the role of interior decoration and Account Manager since The Lounge started in January 2005. Right from managing her first account for Central trains (they’ve since lost their franchise – nothing to do with her/us) through the Buena Vista Ambassadors campaign, the fab Southern Comfort Mardi Gras parties, Virgin Show Off, Battle For The Enemy, Sure Girl, Impulse Romance Revolution and many many more! She’s been a familiar face to our all our field staff too. She’ll be sorely missed by all, but we know she’ll be right at home in her new job as primary teacher from September! (‘Miss Holmes can I go to the toilet? – oh... too late…’) It’s been truly fab few years working with her. Great times...

Here’s some of them. Bye Bye Kimbers - we’ll miss you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Lounge Team

Kids are getting smarter

Officially my first blog at The Lounge! Yeah!!

With our increasing reliance on computers as part of our daily routine. Information and technology being second nature to the youth of today. The obvious next step would be that rather than being just passive users, this generation of kids has the opportunity to tinker with hardware, tweak software, and even program applications.

Hacketyhack is a site geared for children ages 13 and up. With bright graphics and friendly, engaging text, the site offers tutorials on how to write simple programs in Ruby, such as creating a blog or an IM application

Gokaliscious

Gokaliscious

It is always a pleasuere to work with Gok Wan - celebrity stylist. For some reason we call him Gokaliscious at the office?!

He is cute, clever, friendly and quite entertaining which is a combination most celebrities don't have (they are usually just pretty and dumb!).

We had a media day with him yesterday and he was lovely to work with, once again. I love his new hairdo and the tan he got from his time out in the sun when presenting the T4 on the Beach program on Sunday. There are still chances for young pups (16-21year olds) to get a space on his celebrity fashion masterclass - click here for more info on how to get invovled. As part of the day, he will be giving his group a styling challenge along Oxford Street which will be exciting! www.prem21.co.uk

Quote from Gokaliscious

There are lots of options for young people to build a successful career in their industry of choice.” said Wan, “However, if you’re young and starting to make money, it’s a good idea to start thinking about saving for the future. Nobody’s young forever. That’s why I think the work Alliance & Leicester Bank is doing with today’s youth is important to help them start their careers." Gok Wan.

We had a lovely week last week. We had a good new business meeting with someone who makes these. Well not these exactly but shoes.

We have come up with a cunning plan to create a new arm to The Lounge, which for now I will keep under wraps.

We've also got a pitch on for one of these..

Something for the weekend...?

There are a hundred and one things happening in London this weekend so instead of recommending some artsy cultural Time Out listing for you to go to i'm going to give a list of do's and don'ts instead...

Don't...
update your facebook status
let the weather dictate your weekend
feel guilty for doing nothing for at least 3 hours

Do...
find a house party to go to
buy yourself something (no matter how small)
phone a friend

Lounge Takes Off to Soho House Festival

EA In The House!!

We are working on some cool projects for one of our clients Electronic Arts which will go live in September. Watch out students! There will be lots of exciting activity going in 10 universities across the country. Along with a plethora of other cool prizes and giveaways one lucky student will win 1 YEAR’S RENT FREE for them and 3 friends courtesy of Electronic Arts. This is an amazing prize and as an ex student I would have loved this (and probably blown the savings straight away!) Check out the craziness from last year!!

Will be online soon with more updates…

Postal issues

So it's not Christmas, It's not our birthday, we haven't made any racist comments on Big Brother - so why have received two bags of post today?! Well all of our two hundred staff who were live at the weekend, have sent in all their uniforms on time like very good people. Unfortunately they all sent in their tax forms too which I have to fill out... : (

99 Problems but the Weather ain't One

This afternoon we are all off on a little Summer trip to the 02 Wireless Festival in Hyde Park to see the likes of Mark Ronson, Hot Chip and Jay Z. I'm sure it will come as a welcome relief to the Opps. team who have been working like dogs to recruit staff for our Impulse 'Romance Revolution' that goes live tonight.

Jay Z has predicted sunshine for the day, and while it is good to hear some optimism about the weather, you can't help feeling that he has not yet experienced a 'proper' English festival mud-bath yet after a relatively dry Glastonbury last weekend. He does have a degree in Meteorology* though so I'm hoping the big man knows what he's talking about.

*Please note - this is a lie

Saturday was Sure Girl Day!

Last Saturday saw a really exciting day for Sure Girl. 50 lucky winners were invited to a VIP Style Exchange Party held at a location in London’s trendy Carnaby Street!

There were everything a Sure Girl
could wish for, chocolate fountains, loads of pink, enough cupcakes to sink a ship, fashion, make-up & hair workshops to get the latest glam looks.

Hosting was our
fabulous celebrity (ex-Mistique & winner of Strictly Come Dancing) Alisha Dixon. Alisha helped out with all the workshops and presented a Sure Girl Style Exchange fashion show (modeled by our glam competition winners) and three lucky ladies won a piece of Alisha’s wardrobe to take home for their own Style Exchange parties.

Check out the photos on our bebo page www.bebo.com/whatmakesyousweat and fingers crossed there will be more Sure Girl activities taking place around the country soon!

Bye for now –The Sure Girl Team xx
